Destiny 2 Streamer Faces Bungie's Wrath Over Exploitive Raid Tactic

A Destiny 2 streamer has come under Bungie's radar for a new raid tactic that doesn't align with the game's guidelines. The developer promptly issued a cautionary note regarding this particular exploit.

Earlier this week, Twitch streamer Leopard showcased a brief video clip illustrating the tactic. The method hinges on leveraging a VPN to manipulate the connection, akin to net limiting, which intentionally slows down the internet connection. While sluggish internet is typically disadvantageous in online games, net limiting doesn't necessarily result in a laggy experience for the user. Instead, it can be exploited for certain advantages.

In this instance, Leopard managed to destroy three out of six Glyphs belonging to The Witness, the primary antagonist in The Final Shape expansion, using merely one Glyphbreaker buff. This significantly accelerated the mechanic required to initiate the DPS phase during a solo raid attempt.

It goes without saying that Bungie isn't pleased. The developer responded to the clip on Twitter, stating that the tactic breaches their Terms of Service. They acknowledged the excitement of tackling challenging content solo but warned that manipulating the network to gain an advantage in either PvE or PvP could result in restrictions or bans.

Bungie clarified that this warning is not meant to be preferential treatment but rather to set a precedent and alert viewers and players that this behavior is against the rules. They noted that Leopard had not received substantial rewards nor used the trick in any competition, which is why a warning was deemed sufficient.

Evidently, Bungie is aware of this exploit, making it unwise to attempt this method unless one is willing to risk a ban. Players will need to find other innovative ways to tackle The Witness.

How Destiny 2's narrative team has woven ten years of lore into a seamless conclusion with The Final Shape shows how crucial magic has been to this franchise.
